As part of the Exhibition I will be running a handstitch workshop, alongside the exhibition at St Barbes Museum and Art Gallery, dates to be finalised, but will be posted here.
Workshop details – Using colours that appeal to each participant you will develop a surface of stitches which build up to create exciting colour stories with a variety of thread types.
The focus will be on colour mixing, learning and experimenting with a set of composite stitches, which mix several colours together like stitched conversations.
You can come with ideas inspired perhaps by a particular person, or by a particular room or object in your house or just colours you love.
You will end the day with a piece which you could frame or use to decorate another item. We will look at a variety of examples during the day and reference how they are used by the artists in the current exhibition in abstract and figurative ways.
All materials will be provided.
The workshop is open to anyone, including teenagers, though not young children. It can be for people who have experience of stitch and want to experiment with new ideas, and those who are just beginning and want to learn some interesting methods and approaches.
